Abstract


The high school students' English proficiency evaluation based on teacher -based summative assessment , periodic tests , midterm fail exam forms , this traditional form of standard test is not to provide teachers with students learning process and progress . The new high school English curriculum standards under the goal of the high school English curriculum is to develop students' ability to use language , including language knowledge, language skills , learning strategies , learning attitudes . Quantitative evaluation based summative evaluation of the student 's language ability , especially in the evaluation the original cognitive aspects of students lacking . Formative evaluation is a qualitative evaluation of the students' all-round development of the information it provided for teachers and students , to help students become independent learners . Domestic research on the formative evaluation , however , either in theory or in practice , can not meet the needs of the current educational situation . This article is a comparison of the two evaluation methods in a high school students' English writing test . The experiment proposed formative evaluation to assess the English writing skills of high school students , through the use of to establish student writing file to track the evaluation of high school students in English writing the whole process . This test two assumptions : 1) formative evaluation help improve high school students' English writing ability more than summative assessment . 2 ) summative assessment than formative evaluation helps to improve high school students' English writing skills . The subjects were 100 students , a Silver City, senior grade two natural classes in a 20-week experiment , a pretest and a posttest , at the same time two surveys were carried out before and after the experiment . This formative evaluation through the establishment of student writing files \students' self-reflection , enabling them to become independent learners .
