Optical fiber couplers are important passive devices in fiber communication system. It has become key devices to realization of all-fiber communication system. Now most coupler is constructed by-fusing two fibers or more together and then pulling them. The coupler made by this method is called fused biconical coupler. Now the study and research mostly concentrated on optical coupling theory. Seldom works has been done from the aspect of manufacturing mechanism and discipline, especially the impact properties of fiber couplers in fused biconical taper pulling process. Most technological parameters are get from experiment, not from theory. In this paper, a new method is present to analysis the fiber couplers by viscoelastic theory and relaxation theory. This paper is started by an analysis of the behavior of fiber glass in the high temperature. The fiber’s 3D viscoelastic physical model and function is presented by combination of Maxwell viscoelastic model and Narayanaswamy relaxation theory. Then, the numerical integral viscoelastic Physical function is achieved. With the help of the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method, a fiber coupler FEA model is constructed. The numerical analysis results are calculated in the progress of fused biconical tapering (FBT) using FEA method. Changing the loading parameters, we get results to analysis the influence of technological parameters on properties of fiber coupler. In the end of paper, some experimental studies and analysis are completed. We find several disciplines exist between technological parameter and optical properties of fiber couplers.
