Abstract

The United States is a country has a tradition of social reform. There have been historians asserted: a United States history is a history of reform. All kinds in the United States, the purpose and function of different reform movement, the temperance movement (the Prohibition Movement) like a wonderful, unique splendor. It from the bud to the peak experienced a total of more than 100 years, in which thousands of Americans invested with tremendous enthusiasm. In 1919, the Prohibition amendment to the Constitution in force, however, after a lapse of 14 years after 1933, the bill was a constitutional amendment abolished. In this view, both in theory and in practice, completely get rid of the habit of drinking is impossible. Nevertheless, the historical event as an important influence in the history of the United States, Prohibition was eventually abolished does not mean that the temperance movement itself lacks the value of research. No matter from which side the scope and impact of the temperance movement is not confined to a drinking problem itself, but rather a mix of many complex factors in the social life in the United States, becoming refracted mirror of American social and historical change. The temperance movement is a social product of great change, is also an objective to promote the advance of American history. Therefore, to enhance the study of complex social issues involved in the temperance movement and the United States, are of great significance for further in-depth understanding of American society, understanding the function of a variety of social reforms.
