Abstract


Working memory is the 1974 Baddeley and Hitch proposed a concept, it is associated with higher cognitive activities, the temporary processing establishments and storage space for high-level cognitive activities. Working memory has become one of the focus of cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience. In this study, the 5 series (five-term task) transitive inference as the experimental task, transitive inference mechanism of working memory are discussed. The paper consists of three experiments. Experiment, respectively, from the first day, the high school and freshman year of each select 20 test of the mental model theory and the theory of formal rules, internal mental representation of the transitive inference discussed; Experiment 2 80 undergraduate students as subjects, the use of dual-task (dual-task) experimental paradigm, discussed the role of the various components of working memory in transitive inference and transitive inference in the internal representation of the working memory system explained; experimental latent variable analysis of working memory, processing speed, inhibition of transitive inference combine research, the establishment of a structural equation model of working memory and Transitive Inference. The main conclusions of the study are as follows: First, the subjects of different age groups are not use to construct a mental model to solve the transitive inference, therefore, the scope of application of the theory of mental models is limited. Low-grade subjects rarely use mental models to solve the reasoning, but with increasing age, more and more were mental model to solve reasoning. It is possible that the use of the mental model or not with the maturity of the individual or not. Second, the three components of working memory are involved in the transitive reasoning process of resolving, but involvement. The central executive system involved in the highest degree, the visuospatial followed, voice rings a minimum. The voice ring only participate in the result of the reasoning process, while not involved in the process of reasoning premise. Individuals construct mental models to solve reasoning model is constructed in the form of a visual spatial encoding. Third, working memory capacity plays a critical role in transitive inference. The processing speed is not a direct impact on the transitive inference, transitive inference indirectly through the impact of working memory capacity. Working memory capacity, processing speed can explain 83% of the variance in the transitive inference.
