Abstract

In future mobile communication networks, indoor environment with available high-speed data services is an important communication scenario. As a result, the indoor wireless ad-hoc networks planning and intelligent robotics services would require accurate and easily accessible indoor positioning. Moreover, mastering the location information of the device or the user could optimize and improve the performance of wireless networks, and help solve a set of problems of network planning, budgeting, load balancing, etc. However, the complexity and particularity of indoor radio wave propagation environment make the accuracy of indoor positioning a problem which attracts a large number of domestic and international concerns. Consequently, the dissertation chose indoor location, the research direction related to both the theory and the application closely. This paper starts by systematically introducing the basic radio wave propagation mechanism and the indoor propagation environment. It further discusses several typical path loss prediction models of indoor wireless radio propagation and the existing positioning methods based on received signal strength in detail, including their advantages and disadvantages/limitations. With previous work as the background, the radio propagation model based on the inversion model for indoor coverage prediction method is proposed, from which the location method was derived. We also designed an experimental area at the office area of Nanchang University to test and verify the proposed location method by comparing the obtained data with the general linear interpolation method. Moreover, by using the data provided by the Mannheim University, the author tests and assesses the performance of our indoor wireless localization method under a different scenario.Experimental results showed that the propagation model based on the inversion model can adapt to the characteristics of indoor propagation environment, and show its advantages such as rapid establishment of the fingerprint database for the positioning system, strong ability to adapt to the environment and provision of services in time. Fingerprint indoor positioning system based on this method can fundamentally meet the demands of positioning, and has advantageous features such as convenience, effectiveness and adaptability.
