Abstract


As the founders of Confucianism and Taoism,“benevolence”is the core of Confucius thought and“tao”is the core of Lao-tzu thought. The differences between the thoughts of Confucius and Lao-tzu play different role on Chinese culture, especially political ethics culture. Based on the related academic achievements------“The Analects”and“The Tao Te Ching”, this paper discusses the ideal personality and political enlightenment thoughts of Confucius and Lao-tzu on moral, political and social three aspects.One the view of ethics, this paper viewed“personality”as“moral character”and discussed the ideal personality which is viewed as the premise and foundation of enlightenment.The ideal personality of Confucius is a“gentleman’s personality”. It is the“ighteous”state through”Learningmanners”and”wisdom”“courageous”.”righteous”people make its internal“benevolence”explicit in the basic characteristics of specific behavior, such as in faith with newly, generous and kindly through”restrain oneself and return to propriety”. Lao Tse’theory of deal personality is base on”nature”,who is do everything comply with”Dao”. Finally to be a sage and nothing without willful.”Doing nothing”is the internal quality of“Saints”, and it explicits to keep soft indisputable and benefiting human behavior.Confucius’and Lao-tzu’s enlightenment thought was based on its ideal personality as indoctrination target. The enlightenment is developing around the ideal personality, which let people dentity its ideal personality in the cultural environment of non-compulsion and do self-improvement consciously according to this kind of personality. Confucius emphasized that the ruler of enlightenment should make the model of Perfect oneself character to guide and influence the world people; Lao-tzu requested ruler should“no desire”to keep inner privacy and let the people consciously in the nature. The realizing of enlightment aim is its political ideal achievement. Confucius’s political ideal is to realize the datong society of“the world be kernel”,and Lao-tzu ideal kingdom is“a small county with a small population”. In the view of society, Confucius advocated adopting moral enlightenment and the etiquette-music cultural enlightment mode, especially“principls”and educatioin. However, Lao-tzu advocated“discard wisdom”“reject to study”,”polity harmonious”.The enlightment thoughts of Confucius’and Lao-tzu’s are different and complementary. The complementation plays different role on Chinese culture development------- Confucius thought is a dynamic power and Lao-tzu thought is keeping balance.
