Abstract


From the perspective of critical linguistics analysis of speech reporting news discourse pragmatic functions, and examine how the reporter to convey their views through speech reporting. Critical Discourse Analysis to language forms through the surface, from the point of view of linguistics, sociology, psychology and communication studies reveal the relationship between language, power and ideology, including the impact of the ideological discourse generation process language articles counterproductive ideology, and both rooted in the social structure and power relations and how to serve. Critical linguistics, language does not like the past linguists as an objective and transparent media publicity, but a social practice, the intervention force of the social process. Language not only reflects society, but also directly participate in things and social relations constitute. This analysis critical linguistics-based, such as news, political propaganda, government documents, interviews, laws and regulations such as critical reading. The research topics include: gender discrimination, education, employment, and legal aspects of inequality, war, nuclear weapons, political strategy, business behavior implied power and ideology of the dominant groups, as well as the power elite, which reveals how to use language to influence the ideology of the people to safeguard their own interests and the existing social structure. The speech quoted always been confined to literary discourse, research that quotation in the form of features and rhetorical. But with the rise of discourse analysis, people recognize the nature of the speech reporting function which is determined by the types of discourse, speech reporting should be built in the specific context of the discourse on. This paper studies the speech reporting news discourse discourse and pragmatic functions. Many scholars at home and abroad, the use of the theory of critical discourse analysis to study the news reports, but most of the analysis focused on the text of transitivity analysis, modal analysis, the vocabulary classification, nominalization, rheme structure, there is little specializing in speech reporting in news discourse production and convey ideology. The authors selected 40 news reports on the death of former Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, these reports from authoritative media in China and the United States. The analysis around speech reporting sources, relayed verb, quoted four aspects, results show that although news reports repeatedly stressed that the objective, truthful and transparent, actually inevitably influenced by ideology, speech reporting as The news discourse creators effective weapon to achieve this purpose. This once again proved the point of view of critical discourse analysis: the language is a social practice, it is subject to the influence of people's ideology, while the language of the people's ideological formation with counterproductive. The theoretical significance of this study lies in its ability to provide an analysis of surface structure of language reveals the ideology implicit in the language of deep. Its practical significance is a critical analysis of the reference to the English language teaching, especially the News English teaching, improve critical reading of the English learner awareness, and to improve their English reading and writing skills.
