Private equity has become one of the hottest topics in Chin, and is getting more and more importance in the financing area of enterprises. Particularly, after the launch of China’s Growth Enterprise Stock Market, the listed companies backed by private capital has gain much attention from investors. Nevertheless, China’s private equity sector is still at a very early stage. In the perspective of legal environment, the private capital-related laws and regulations are still not perfect, while the regulatory bodies for the private funds are still in the lack. On the other hand, private funds themselves in China are still in chaos: legal structures and investment terms are still chaotic. Most importantly, many companies seeking private equity investment are still blind, hungry for capital and ignoring what’s also important: the significant“beyond-money (or“non-capital”) value-adds of private equity”.This study begins with clarifying the similarities and distinctions between domestic and international private equity firms, and differentiating private equity and venture capital. After a review of literatures about values of private equity, more efforts are put in digging out the forms and dynamics of beyond-money value-adds, through a combination of case studies, on-site interviews and academic survey. This article tries to summarize the main categories of beyond-money value-adds and draw out the private investment landscape. The article found that social capital, also a hot topic, has shown great importance in the existing and processing of private equity value.The purpose of this paper is not only to guide private firms and to provide new areas for academic research, but also to help capital-hungry enterprises select a proper private investor. With a deep understanding of private non-capital value-added, private equity will better leverage their strengths and allocate resources, promoting the invested enterprises faster and better.
