Abstract
|
Pituitary adenoma is one of the most common intracranial benign tumors, which ranks third in intracranial tumors with the incidence rate about 1 /l00000~7/100000. Generally speaking, Pituitary adenomas with characteristics of localized growth and without metastasis have good prognosis after operation. But some pituitary adenomas with invasive behavior would lead to postoperative recurrence, which invaded bone, dura, nerves, cavernous sinus and blood vessels widely and couldn’t be removed completely. The therapy effect is relative to the invasiveness of pituitary adenoma. To seek the correlative factors as a prognostic for recurrence is a guidance for neurosurgeons to decide the postoperative therapy method. Many previous studies showed that some chemokines play a very important role in malignant tumors’growth and metastasis by promoting tumor cell proliferation, migration or neovascularization in tumor tissue. Angiogenesis existing in many tumor tissues and regarded as an inevitable phase in tumor progress is correlative to tumor growth, local invasion and metastasis. The microvessel density (MVD) is now widely used to evaluate the tumor angiogenesis, and has been proved to correlated with the tumor infiltration and prognosis. The pituitary adenomas with invasive are highly proliferative and angiogenic and have much similarity with malignant tumors in biological features. The identification of chemokine receptors associated with these biology that may ultimately lead to better understanding the development of pituitary adenomas and to derive effective therapeutics for this relatively incurable neoplasm. In this study, 40 pituitary adenomas specimens removed in southwest hospital and 5 normal pituitary tissue were collected, all fixed with 4% formalin and then paraffin embedded. Every case history was detailedly reviewed, and all specimens were divided into invasive group(22 cases) and noninvasive group(18 cases) by combindedly adopting Knosp imaging diagnosis standard and Renzuyuans standard and consulting all operation records.
