Abstract


Under idea of sustainable development and based on conventional natural science, sociology and health science, the study of ecosystem health has been established and developed since 1980s.In recent decades, the ecosystem has been unprecedentedly destroyed by human being. The deterioration of ecosystem health will eventually negatively impact on us. Therefore, the research on ecosystem health is a hot topic currently. So far, the research includes agro-ecosystem, hydro-ecosystem, forest ecosystem and urban ecosystem, et al.Recently, domestic scholars begin to closely concern with this discipline, but the research on urban ecological system health is few.Because urban ecosystem is mostly impacted by human behaviour, the health of the system not only means the health and integrity of natural and artificial environment consisted system that provides ecological service but also the health of urban inhabitants and society. In order to understand the situation of an urban ecosystem and efficiently manage the system, the author believes that the research on urban ecological system assessment is necessary.In the thesis, the theory, methodology and practice of urban ecosystem health analysis are explored deeply. It consists of six chapters. In introduction chapter, the author introduces the background, concepts, characteristics, prediction methods of ecosystem health theory, review the progress of the study, and discuss problems and future research questions of this field. In the main part of this thesis, the author will introduce research methods and technical routine applied in this dissertation. Then, the author will define the criterion and standards to assess urban ecosystem by principal component analysis. Then establish an model of urban ecological system health assessment by using the fuzzy mathematics method, Finally, the author will apply this model in main district of Chongqing, and assess urban ecosystem health of Chongqing city from 1997 to 2004 and suggest methods to improve urban ecosystem health and environment management for the city. Hopefully, it will be useful for policymaking on construction of garden city. The main findings of this article:(l)The author establishes an index system to assess urban ecosystem health by using qualitative and quantitative research methods. The system includes five elements: vigor, organizational structure, resilience, ecosystem services, and human health effects.The 36 indicators entirely show the content of urban ecosystem health. I avoid overlap problems of these indicators by applying principal component analysis.By using the fuzzy mathematics method, the model of urban ecosystem health assessment is created. Finally the approach for assessing urban ecosystem health, including index system, index weight, assessment standard and assessment model, is brought forward.(2)The result of main district of Chongqing urban ecosystem health in 1997~2004 indicates that the
