Abstract


Cough　is　a　main　symptom　in　pulmonary　disease ,　and　can　be　one　of　symptoms　of　various　diseases.　From　the　point　of　etiology,　cough　can　be　divided　into　two　types:　exogenous　and　endogenous.　The　former　is　caused　by　the　six　exogenous　pathogenic　factors　invading　the　lung,　which　impair　the　purifying　and　descending　function　of　the　lung　and　induce　abnormal　rising　of　lung　qi,　thus　causing　cough.　In　western　medicine,　cough　is　a　main　symptom　in　disease　such　as　upper　respiratory　tract　infection,　acute　and　chronic　bronchitis,　bronchiectasis　pneumonia　and　pulmonary　tuberculosis.　　　In　China,seasonal　and　climatic　conditions　exert　certain　influence　on　the　diagnosis　and　treatment　of　exogenous　cough.　It　is　believed　that　Wind-cold　cough　is　the　commonest　syndrome.　Singapore　is　located　in　tropical　area　and　year　around　in　summer.　The　purpose　of　this　study　is　to　investigate　the　characteristics　of　extrogenous　cough　in　Singapore.　First,summarized　the　former　research　of　the　study　to　the　cough　with　Traditional　Chinese　Medicine　method　and　cough　as　a　main　symptom　in　different　respiratory　diseases.　Next ,　Based　on　the　sum　up　of　former　Clinical　experience　and　literature ,to　set　up　the　diagnosis　standard　of　three　main　kinds　of　exogenous　cough　syndrome.　Then,　the　table　of　Singapore　exogenous　cough　syndrome　clinical　observation　was　established　according　to　correlative　standard.　100　cases　were　collected　,all　cough-related　symptoms　were　recorded.　Syndrome　differentiation　and　diagnosis　are　made　by　the　diagnosis　standard　of　exogenous　cough　and　three　main　kinds　of　exogenous　cough　syndrome.　　　The　result　of　study　shows　that　the　incidence　of　Wind-heat　Attacking　the　lung　cough　and　Wind-dry　Attacking　the　lung　cough　are　almost　equally　high,　whereas　the　incidence　of　Wind-cold　Attacking　the　lung　cough　are　very　low　which　is　much　different　from　general　rule.　So　it　is　in　accordance　with　the　theory　that　the　principles　of　treatment　should　vary　with　individual　cases,　climatic　conditions,　and　environmental　factors.　At　the　same　time　,the　main　symptoms　between　Wind-heat　Attacking　cough　and　Wind-dry　Attacking　cough　are　compared,　it　shows　much　difference　in　many　ways　due　to　different　characteristics　of　Wind-heat　and　Wing-dry.
