Abstract

Nowadays, single piece order and small batch order with variety parts and short lead time are so common in the market. This is a new challenge to most of the manufacturers who used to handle mass production and traditional business manner. It is a real and serious problem to be settled by the company management who still wants to survive and grow up in the market.This thesis begins from the introducing of Flexible Manufacturing Technology, the technology that used quite a time ago but still being improved by using latest electronic/mechanical technology, IT and creative designs. With analysis of its characteristics and limitations, a new concept, Flexible Manufacturing Tactic (FMT) was inducted by writer. This FMT could be defined as: lead by top level management, focus on the flexibility of operation management, to enlarge the ability of operation system through planning, re-organization, resource management, optimizing the OM construction elements and non-construction elements, breakthrough the limitation of Flexible Manufacturing Technology to achieve the operation target and company goal. In the following, this thesis compared two FMT with their difference and strongpoint in concept, goal, method, user and the field of using to conclude that Flexible Manufacturing Tactic will really help to increase the ability of company operation system. Follow on the above, this thesis analysts the purchase order characteristics and product specifications of HW Company. By using the theory and method of Flexible Manufacturing Tactic, through the production process flow, techniques related, equipments needed, human resources study, based on the total amount of investment, find out the way to implement Flexible Manufacturing Tactic in HW Company’s operation management practice to make HW grow and success.In the following chapters, the thesis listed down the major difficulties I’m facing during applies the FMT in HW Company and the way I’m using OM theory to overcome them. Those were grouped in two portions: OM construction related factors and non-OM construction related factors. In the first portion, FMT of the process flow, FMT of the equipment layout and FMT of the manufacturing capability were the three major issues. For non-OM construction related factors, I am focusing on FMT of organization tactic, FMT of human resources and FMT of stocking management. I am using the limited investment to achieve a higher quality and higher effectiveness of the product output. Detailed and true data taken from HW have been used in above mentioned discussing. Focused on FMT concept, used of operation management theory and supply chain management, value chain management, sufficient analysis and argumentation for“actual status– problem analysis– causes detection– solutions finding”circle, HW has decided to build up key process manufacturing capability, critical and special inspection techniques and instruments capability as our company core. Also, developing more good suppliers as our business partner to achieve flexibility of our productions was another important arrangement. These arrangements required us to use different and creative manner to deal with employees especially those who has working experience in other company with traditional manner. Special adjustment to be made to organization construction, employee recruit, order management and inventory management. These changes made the company with better flexibility in its operation management to face the challenge from changefully fast market to make the company survive, success and growing.In the end of my thesis, it concludes the impotency of FMT to a manufacturing company, especially to China private company with limited capital. As an additional point, I hereby advice government officers to thinking about putting more product related enterprises in the same or nearby industrial part or estate to make the FMT achievable.
