Objective: To observe the effects of selective digestive decontamination (SDD) and glutamine(GLN) to prevent intestinal bacterial translocation in the model of rabbit orthotopic piggyback liver transplantation and to lower the incidence of postoperative pneumonia. Methods: Build up the model of rabbit orthotopic piggyback liver transplantation and carry out a randomly controlled experiment toward the receptor. The project on SDD group includes the process of mixing up Tobramycin (100 mg), polymyxin E(100mg) and nystatin (1, 000, 000 U) into 20ml emulsion, then feeding the receptor through gastric tube with the emulsion 4ml/(kg . d) (divided into four doses) for 3 days before the operation and through gastric fistula with the same dosage emulsion since the first day of postoperative for less than 3 days. The scheme about SDD+GLN group consists of an adding dosage of glutamine (GLN) 2. 6g to the above mentioned 20ml emulsion, then feeding the receptor with the same dosage and the same method. The control group only establishes liver transplantation model. Portal vein blood, ileum tissue and lung tissue specimen are obtained in each group according to different period during and after the operation. To understand the effects of SDD+GLN to prevent intestinal bacterial translocation and to lower the incidence of postoperative pneumonia in the model through examining the changes of ileum tissue pathology, the rate of Portal vein blood bacterial translocation and the incidence of postoperative pneumonia. Results: After the operation intestinal mucous membrane of SDD+GLN group almost has no damage according to microscope and electron microscope check.
