Abstract


The virtue of comity is Chinese nation’s fine tradition. In Spring-Autumn and the Warring-States periods, it was not only the individual behavior principles, but also the political tactics of state administering. Pre-Qin scholars on behalf of the different social class, stated their views that how to stop the scrambles.In the common understanding of opposing scrambles for nation and gain, there were different views in Confucianism, Taolism, Mohist school and Legalist school. They held the views of political idea of public world and comity for nations, doing without contention, the universal-love and no attacking, and putting law above everything else.On the foundations of Pre-Qin scholars’thought, SIMA Qian developed the concept of scramble and comity in social and political thinking in Shi Ji. The abdication event between Yao and Shun was the best social and political idea of SIMA Qian. He opposed the scramble for nation, and approved of the comity of nation among brothers. He opposed the scramble for gain from people and approved of the simple politics too.There were reasonable factors in SIMA Qian’s concept of scramble and comity. The systematic idea included his hope that we should take warning from it. He used his unique words to arrange the history and culture of ancient China and expressed his owe feelings in his word. The incidents of comity in Shi Ji including giving up benefit, sovereign, authority and so on, embody his moral idea of pursuing self-discipline and comity, and also embody his political idea of public world and comity for nations. But there is also the obvious insufficiency because of the limitation of his social class and the times.SIMA Qian’s concept of scramble and comity is a good field to expand the research of Shi Ji, and may enrich the comprehension of Shi Ji. His social idea of making respect and love spread over the world, still has significance of reality for building today’s harmonious society.
