Abstract

Elemental analysis based on the emission spectrum from the plasma generated by focusing a high power density laser beam on the sample surface is known as Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). The investigation on the laser induced micro-plasma plays an important role in super-conduct films, nanometer materials, laser isotope separations, medicine, biology, and other industrial applications. When the power density of laser on the sample surface is high enough, the sample is vaporized, and then the neutral and ionic species are formed at excited states. The spectral lines emitted from these species can be used to determine the sample composition and the trace concentration quantitatively. So this technique can be used to detect the trace element contained in gaseous, droplet, and liquid samples. LIBS is at its development period compared to the other developed analysis techniques, but its potential advantages as high sensitivity, the least destroying of the samples, and remote field measurement make it be a wide concerned research field.LIBS technique has been successfully employed for qualitative and semi-quantitative elemental analysis in solid and gaseous samples in the last twenty years. Therefore, it is easy for us to consider the possibility of applying this technique to the trace analysis of the liquid samples. The inflexion of the heavy metal waste in the seaport and the debouchments was increased in manifold with the development of the industrial. It is very important to measure the influence of the heavy metal on the sea environment. It was shown from the
