Abstract

Fullerenes have attracted intensive attention by scientists in physics, chemistry and material science for their special structure and properties. The studies on the synthesis and properties of fullerene derivatives had been one of the active topics in the fullerene chemistry. Fluorinated fullerenes are becoming one of the most important fields in fullerene chemistry since they have good solubility and can be used as intermediates for novel derivatives. To synthesize novel fluorinating reagents, prepare and isolate fullerenes derivatives, summarize reaction rules and relations between properties and structures are remarkably meaningful for exploring and developing applications of fluorinated fullerenes and will play an important role in the development of fullerene chemistry. This thesis is focused on the synthesis and isolation of fluorinated fullerenes, exploring new effective fluorinating reagents and their applications in materials science.1. A suit of equipment to synthesize fluorinated [60]fullerenes has been set up. A series of fluorinated [60]fullerenes were obtained by reaction of KF and MnF3 with C60, and isolated and purified by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The fluorinated [60]fullerenes were characterized by Ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) and Infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The red shifts of C60F20 and C60F18O2 in UV-Vis spectra in comparison with that of C60 absorption at 334 nm were seen.2. A fluorinating reagent comprised of EuF3, NH4F and NH4EuF4 had been synthesized by using Eu2O3,HNO3,HF and NH4F, and characterized by X-ray powder diffractometer (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A new kind of flourofullerenes with absorption peak at 900 nm that only few fullerene derivatives have has been synthesized by reaction of the
