Abstract


Xiamen Institute of Geological Investigation (XIGI) is the biggest engineering investigation unit in Xiamen area, and owns strong professional technical power. XIGI began its enterprise running from 1990 and ran the management contract responsibility system from 1999. Although there is a constant increase in the amount of contract and the gross economy of XIGI, it has the following demerits due to the simply and extensive management: the profit and capital amassing of XIGI increases slowly and the ability of investment is poor. Confronted with more fierce competition from market, XIGI tempted to develop diversification in groundwork construction, house renting, geological disaster evaluation, survey and mapping from 2000 as the profit from engineering investigation only couldn’t sustain its development.Diversification is the certainly development direction of engineering investigation corporate. But, there are lots of business units and what development strategy should be used in each business domains?By applying the theories and methods of strategic management, using GE matrix method after the competitive ability analysis of the five business units of XIGI and based on the analysis on the macro-environment and internal resources, this paper tries to come up with the corporate future thought of development. This paper falls into six chapters: the first chapter gives a brief account of the corporate conditions and latent risks of XIGI; the second chapter gives an analysis on the macro-economy environment XIGI finds itself in; the third chapter comes up with the strategic planning for the corporate future development based on the internal resources evaluation of XIGI as well as the SWOT analysis; the fourth chapter comes up with the development strategy of each business unit of XIGI with GE matrix method based on the competitive ability analysis of each business unit; the fifth chapter deals with
