The average annual growth rate of the GDP of China has been 9.5% in the recent 28 years while China is reforming and opening up. The sustained and rapid economic growth is in the extensive economic growth mode and irrational consumption patterns; therefore, the problems of resource shortage and environmental degradation have been aggravated. In order to solve these problems and keep the social economy developing coordinately and sustainably, people have to change the extensive mode of economic growth into developing recycling economy and change the unscientific consumption patterns into sustainable consumption patterns under the guidance of the scientific concept of development.The sustainable consumption will not only meet people’s needs, but also make it develop harmoniously between human and nature, human beings and human and society. It has the feature of fairness, moderation and continuity. It emphasizes that consumption for living is not only a personal conduct to meet one’s living needs, but also a social behavior to bear the social responsibility.High school students are the main consumers and producers of society in the future. Their consuming attitudes and styles will have deep influence on whether the sustainable development can be achieved or not. Teaching them how to consume in a sustainable way will be beneficial not only for the youth to form a correct outlook on the world, life and values and guide them to grow healthily, but also to be able to boost the formation of a new social tendency to sustainable consumption and the realization of the social sustainable consumption.However, to some extent, the education of sustainable consumption has been neglected for some schools have centered their view on improving the rate of entering the higher school and the teaching activities that have nothing to do with the rate have been weakened. The solutions to the problem are to enhance the education on the educators to make them establish a scientific concept of development and of quality education first and to employ all the measures to make sure that the education of sustainable consumption is implemented in every aspect of the work in a school.Referring to the content of sustainable consumption, it includes how to learn the knowledge and skill of sustainable consumption and understand its significance, and further how to form the idea and habit of sustainable consumption. When it is being implemented, the teachers should educate the students in ordinary classroom teaching, practice and the distinctive lessons in different schools.
