Abstract
Maxine Hong Kingston 's \Maxine Hong Kingston and Amy Tan , from their own experience , a true description of the status of ethnic Chinese women's survival . They not only broke through the invisible barriers of mainstream American society to bring ethnic Chinese literary and broke the muffler status of Chinese women for thousands of years , and won a place in the world for the Chinese female literature . This article mainly from the point of view of post - colonialism and feminism to explore the the silence theme in the two works . Firstly, parsing the concept of silence , the silence to convey different meanings in different environments , its efficacy is also different . The silence in the negative sense that the misunderstanding between people from different cultural backgrounds , the silence was forgotten . Two works of ethnic Chinese women in the silence of racial prejudice and patriarchal society it is this manifestation of repressed , it is not only the ethnic Chinese women lose the right to speak in the community , and also family members of estrangement between mother and daughter . Silence turn deepen these three conflicts and misunderstandings . Silence of the reasons of the Chinese American women focused on analyzing the cause and then revealed to hide in the silence behind the race between the conflicts between cultures , and between the sexes . Therefore, the silence must be broken . Only by breaking the silence , to obtain the liberation of humanity repressed . Only through exchanges , misunderstandings and contradictions be possible to eradicate . On this basis , the ethnic Chinese women can truly understand and know themselves, in order to achieve equality between men , whites , and people from other cultures , successful communication .
