Endogenous Hydrogen Sulfide and Cognitive Function in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea-hypopnea Syndrome

Abstract


Objective To investigate the obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome cognitive dysfunction and its relationship with changes in plasma endogenous hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) . Methods 45 cases diagnosed by sleep polygraph monitoring patients with OSAHS (OSAHS group ) , healthy adults 30 ( control group ) the MMSE scale examination to assess their cognitive function . The sensitive the sulfur electrodes detect subjects plasma endogenous H 2 S level observation of the patients plasma endogenous H 2 S changes , analysis and cognitive function at night the relationship between the hypoxia . Results OSAHS patients with MMSE score , memory , attention and calculation of the force as well as memories of force scores significantly lower than the control group (P < 0.01 ) ; with OSAHS plasma endogenous H 2 S level (34.26 ± The 2.39μmol / L) was significantly lower than the control group (41.43 ± 2.19μmol / L), the difference was statistically significant ( P <0.01 ) , and MMSE total score ( r = 0.7408 , P <0.01 ) , attention and calculation of force (r = 0.3217, P <0.05), memories of force was a positive correlation (r = 0.3024, P <0.05) , and apnea hypopnea index (AHI) ( r = -0.926 , P <0.01 ) , the longest sleep apnea time (LAT) (r = -0.474, P <0.01) was negatively correlated with night minimum oxygen saturation ( LSaO 2 ) (r = 0.713 , P <0.01 ) were positively correlated . Conclusion OSAHS patients memory abilities and learning computing power decline , the level of plasma endogenous H2S decreases ; latter may be one of the mechanisms of OSAHS patients with cognitive dysfunction . Nocturnal hypoxemia may lead to reduced plasma endogenous hydrogen sulfide .
