Abstract


The areas of the middle Inner-Mongolia and Datong were the crucial living region of the Xianbei after they moved south down to the“Ancient Hunnish Region”. There are many tombs of the Xianbei and Northern Wei in these areas. Basing on the studies and researches of former scholars and researchers together with new findings and materials in the recent years, this paper studies the periodization of these tombs and then summarizes the changes in every periods, so it will clearly account for the development and changes of the Xianbei in these areas.This paper is composed of seven parts.The first part is the foreword, it briefly introduces the discoveries and researches on the Xianbei and Northern Wei tombs in the areas of Inner-Mongolia and Datong. Moreover, it illustrates the range and aim of this study.The second part is about the analysis of the tomb forms. According to the differences in the structural materials and dig manners, 256 tombs are divided into three types. Each type is divided into some sub-types. The third part is about the periodization of these tombs. There are four successive periods according to the analyse of the structure of tombs, typical potteries, and the coexisting artifacts,.The forth part is development of history reflected by the periodizationThe fifth part is the comparative analysis of tombs of the Xianbei and Han peoples in the Northern Wei period.The sixth part is the conclusion.The seventh part is the supplement. After the author finished the body of the paper, some new materials were published in the Cultural Relics in October 2006, so these materials are supplemented in this part.
