Abstract


Decades ago, countries linguists and educators began to focus on the importance of culture in foreign language teaching, more and more linguists and educators dedicated to the study of language and culture. Their research showed that language and culture are closely related, and to understand the culture of the target language contribute to the learning of foreign language learners. Sayings pregnant with meaning as the essence of a national language, has a rich ethnic and cultural characteristics. Thus, the learning of English Sayings help English language learners understand the rich cultural connotation of the sayings of the English nation, cultural background and way of thinking in order to promote their English learning. This paper tries to look at from the perspective of the language and culture from the second language acquisition field of interest in learning, motivation, attitude and personality to study the the Sayings learning for students learning English. This paper aims to verify the underlying assumptions: 1) English Sayings learning will help to deepen the understanding of the English learners of English culture; 2) English Sayings learning helps to enhance the learning of English learners' interest and motivation to help learners develop learning attitude and good personality so as to promote the learning of English. This article is to explore one of the few about the Sayings learning and language learning combined. The first chapter is the full text of Introduction; second chapter introduces the the Sayings definition, classification, origin and function; Chapter from the relationship between language and culture, analyzes the relationship between language and culture, and Sayings with English learning; fourth chapter elaborates on the theoretical knowledge, such as acculturation model, Affective Filter Hypothesis and learning interest and motivation theory research; Chapters V and VI, is the focus of the article, detailing the whole process of this experiment, including the purpose of the experiment, experimental methods (such as questionnaires, interview method, the test method, etc.) as well as the experimental procedure. Chapter VI of the results of experimental statistics, analysis of research data to verify the correctness of the assumptions. Chapter VII is the full text of the final chapter summarizes the experimental results and limitations, and English teaching suggestions. Through this study, the authors draw two conclusions: 1) English Sayings learning can deepen the understanding of the English learners of English culture; 2) English Sayings learning can enhance the learning of English learners' interest and motivation to help them raise into the right learning attitude and good personality in order to promote their English learning.
