Abstract


Humor as an interpersonal effective way, is an important part of all cultures, languages. Nash (1981:1) has pointed out that \Humor is a multi-disciplinary research topics, people from many fields of philosophy, psychology, literature, sociology, linguistics, medicine, anthropology, the study of humor phenomenon. However, in many academic studies, humor has been seen as an interdisciplinary, did not get enough attention. From the seventies and eighties of the 20th century, with the development of semantics and pragmatics, many linguists in the field of Verbal Humor make a significant contribution to humor research into a new era. Depends first and foremost on people's understanding of verbal humor understanding of the literal meaning of the words / text, followed by the need to understand the context Finally, by means of abstract thinking, and infer the meaning of what happened in certain contexts, from the pragmatic point of view, this is a pragmatic inference process, it comes to understanding the meaning of the session. From the pragmatic science point of view, in the Humor Studies summarizes the existing theory based on the use of the principles of cooperation, politeness principle, speech act theory, Relevance Theory theory, through the analysis of the famous American sitcom \in a lot of instances of verbal humor, reveal the deep structure of English Verbal Humor, namely humor the internal manufacturing laugh mechanism, were tentative discussion for people to understand and appreciate the English verbal humor provide some effective recommendations. In recent years, most of the verbal humor to focus only on the theoretical discussion, not much humor in the actual communication. This article by instance, analysis of verbal humor in \; Context Utterances not ideal; reasoning ability and do not understand the social background of the English-speaking countries, customs, and cultural factors. In order to overcome these obstacles, the authors propose a second language acquisition, not only to cultivate good language skills of the acquisition of non-English-speaking countries, should pay more attention to develop his / her pragmatic awareness and pragmatic competence. By sitcom verbal humor language study, the paper argues that understanding, appreciation of verbal humor in English sitcom to effectively cultivate and improve the Pragmatic Competence of English Learners.
