Abstract


Essay is one of the most important style in China. We have many excellentessay works in ancient China. It is natural that essays can be combined with the modern newspaper. With the developing of the modern newspaper, essay- style has changed a lot. My thesis are based on a very famous newspaper ShenBao and it’ s appendix ZiYouTan ,1 want to make clear that ZiYouTan has taken an important role in the developing of the modern essays.This thesis includes three parts. The first part discusses that ZiYouTan’s reader awareness affects on modern essay’s character. I analyze what kind of readers ZiYouTan faces .the readers expanding urges essays to change it’s old appearance, modern essays has changed in two facts, that is essay’s popular culture character and it’s popular expressing method.The second part discusses the effects ZiYouTan’s function has done on modern essays function. I analyze the effects western culture has done on modern intellectuals; modern intellectuals’ effects on public opinion. Lots of new characters emerge in modern essays’ functions : public opinion function ,critics function, description function, expression function, entertainment function.The third part discusses ZiYouTan ’s style choices effects on modern essays’ style . In order to cooperate with modern newspaper’ development, many new essay styles have emerged in modern essays. Though the analysis of the concrete essays ,1 make a conclude that modern essays have made a great improvement in language utilizing and its artificial expression.All in all, ShenBao.ZiYouTan is a very special newspaper in modern media history. It provides a free field for modern essays’ development and urges modern essays to develop in many facts. The essays published on ZiYouTan inherit ancient essays characters, on the other hand, they also show the development of western essay conception. ZiYouTan has done a great contribution on modern essays’ development.
