It looks as if the paint of Chinese men’s basketball team is morepowerful than ever before, and has had the abilities to compete withthe world’s best team, along with the emergence of outstanding centerYao, No.1 pick in NBA. However, in terms of the performance ofbasketball team in 28th Athens Olympic Games, Yao alone cannot copewith all. The weakness of power forward man was becoming the weakpoint in Chinese basketball. Though the lost of that game had muchto say, but one of the reason was the action of the power forwardplayer can hardly satisfy us. Besides the simple offense tips, itcannot share the pressure from the center when defended, and unableto function as the linkage between low post and high post.Documentary analysis, paper investigation, inquiring withexperts, video analysis and data statistics were adopted, based onexcellent power forward in the NBA regular season and outstandingpower forward in the CBA league match between 04～05 Sport Season:Nowadays, with the highly developed basketball in the world, theskills of power forward player are intended to be more and moreperfect, and the traditional power can hardly adapt to thedevelopment of today’s basketball movement. It requires them not onlyhave those qualities, such as calm, wit, determination, agility andspeediness, sound physical qualities in the playground, but alsocapable of defense and offence. Compare the international strongerteam with our current status, our power forward player lagged farbehind in the culture, techniques, tactics awareness, and physicalqualities. This paper summarized the difference and similaritiesamong the power forward, small forward, center in modern basketballand analyzed the difference between China and foreign countries’power forward in the view of physical shape, technique specialty, psychological traits, tactics attainment, etc. to find out theinsufficiency of China basketball power forward, and analyze how thecontemporary power player is formed, and then a fresh conception-"Contemporary basketball Power forward player" is offered. Finally,the author illustrates us the trend in the development ofContemporary Power forward player and put forward a new trainingmodel through the select of athletes, the ability of techniques andtactics, physical quality, psychological problem and work-style soas to provide referenced evidence for the cultivation of tallerplayer in Chinese basketball.
