The North Korean Nuclear Issue can be rated as one of the most complicated and thorny international issues in the current world, which dated back to the early 1990s.The peaceful solution of the issue concerns not only the security and stability of the Korean Peninsula and even Northeast Asia, but also realization of China’s peaceful rise. Since the Second Nuclear Crisis of North Korea broke out in October 2002, China has been playing active role in dealing with the issue while it didn’t intervene directly during the First Nuclear Crisis. China’s diplomatic accomplishments have become a great glory of its diplomacy in the new century. Currently, the North Korean Nuclear Issue is developing. The peaceful solution of the issue surely lies in the attitude of the main interlocutors, namely North Korea and America, but it cannot be realized without efforts from international factors, especially China. A complete survey of China’s role in the North Korean Nuclear Issue contributes to not only the peaceful solution of the issue, but also better understanding of new changes in China’s diplomacy. This paper analyzes China’s role in the North Korean Issue, focuses on China’s effect and why it plays active role in dealing with the issue. The paper has three parts: the introduction, text (four chapters) and conclusion. Its main content and arrangement are as follows:The introduction presents the significance, the referential material collection, the actuality of the study, theoretical structure and the structure of the paper.Chapter One reviews the origin of the North Korean Nuclear Issue, and then analyzes why the issue keeps unsolved and points out that the essence of the North Korean Nuclear Issue lies in the contradiction of national interests between America and North Korea.Chapter Two discusses China’s diplomatic accomplishments in dealing with the North Korean Nuclear Issue and gives an objective appraisal of China’s effect. The author views China as an indispensable constructive role in realizing peaceful solution of the issue, yet whose effect is restrained by some other factors.Chapter Three analyzes why China plays active role in dealing with the North Korean Nuclear Issue. In the author’s view, it is to ensure its own national interests, to undertake its international responsibility as a big power and to build a good national image. It is by China’s New Security Concept that its diplomatic practice is directed. China’s diplomatic behavior is also motivated by the historical emotion.Chapter Four predicts the prospect of the North Korean Nuclear Issue and suggests some countermeasures to facilitate peaceful solution of the issue. The conclusion summaries the main content of the text, based on which, the author gives some comments on new changes in China’s diplomacy.
