Abstract


Since Ming Dynasty, artillery and blunderbuss had been predominant types of traditional firearms, representing the mainstream of development of traditional firearms. They both reflected the level of traditional firearm technology. Firearm gradually became the main type of martial weapon. Firearm technological-theorization belonged to the core contents of military technology in the process of China’s military technological transformation. Modern transformation of military technology played an important part in modern transformation of Ming and Qing Dynasties, also was the impetus of achievement of modern transformation of Ming and Qing Dynasties. The developments of textualization, quantification and standardization were important connotation of technological theorization during Ming and Qing Dynasties. This article focuses on the theoretical process of firearm technological transformation in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The author tries to analyze historical features, social background and influences which firearm technological-innovation and technological-theorization brought about.
