Abstract


Objective To study the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), thrombospondin (TSP-1) in the adrenal cortex tumors and its relationship with microvessel density (MVD), and to explore them in adrenocortical tumors develop mechanisms and biological behavior effect. Methods Immunohistochemistry was used to detect 13 cases of adrenal cortical carcinoma, 30 cases of adrenal adenomas and 7 normal adrenal tissue VEGF, TSP-1 and MVD (marked by CD34) expression, to analyze the expression level of adrenocortical tumors The relationship between clinical and pathological features. Results In 13 cases of adrenal cortical carcinoma VEGF expression were higher than adrenocortical adenomas (19/30 cases), the difference was statistically significant (P <0.001). No normal adrenal tissue VEGF expression. VEGF expression and gender, age and blood pressure is not associated with tumor size (diameter) associated with a diameter ≥ 5cm diameter than adrenal tumors <5cm higher tumor VEGF expression. TSP-1 in 6/7 normal adrenal expression, higher than the adrenal cortical carcinoma (2/13 cases), the difference was statistically significant (P = 0.002). Adrenocortical adenomas TSP-1 expression in normal adrenal cortex and adrenal cortical carcinoma no difference. TSP-1 expression and gender, age, blood pressure, independent of tumor diameter. MVD marked by CD34 in adrenocortical carcinoma (107.67 ± 11.91) / × 200 field of view, higher than adrenocortical adenomas (46 ± 21.31) / × 200 vision and normal adrenal tissue (25.10 ± 3.94) / × 200 field of view, the difference were statistically significant (P <0.001). MVD with sex, age and blood pressure independent. MVD ≥ 5cm in diameter than the diameter of adrenocortical tumors <5cm tumor (P <0.001). VEGF expression and MVD was positively correlated (r_s = 0.834, P <0.001), TSP-1 expression was negatively correlated with MVD (r_s = -0.653, P <0.001). The expression of VEGF and TSP-1 expression was negatively correlated (r_s = -0.389, P <0.001). Conclusion adrenal cortical carcinoma compared with adrenal adenoma and normal adrenal cortex has a higher MVD. VEGF expression in the adrenal cortical carcinoma than adrenocortical adenomas and normal adrenal cortex, adrenal cortical tumors in the development process played an important role. TSP-1 expression in the adrenal cortical carcinoma is lower than the normal adrenal cortex. VEGF and TSP-1 expression was negatively correlated, VEGF and TSP-1 expression in adrenocortical tumors imbalance of tumor vascular anomalies generated important reasons.
