Abstract


As one of the masterpieces of Henry James, after the publication of the novel \Comments made from the ethics of the novel multi-combined with aesthetic issues, such as the 2000, Jonathan Friedman (Jonathan Freedman) discussed the the ethical consequences caused by the aesthetic point of view held by the characters in the novel. In addition, I will explore the views of the Henry James moral significance in the art that embodied the spirit of freedom, to further demonstrate Osmond limit the freedom of others to meet the cold-blooded act of self-demand, has also been criticism of James. The third chapter, the author based on Kant's interpretation of the concept of responsibility to analyze Isabel strong sense of responsibility, combined with Isabel's understanding of the concept of happiness to explain the conflict of responsibility and well-being, tried to argue that Isabel eventually return to transcendental freedom choices made to adhere to the ethical principles and responsible to maintain the sanctity of marriage behavior. Author papers conclusion part pointed out that the writer Henry James adhering to Kant's moral theory and epistemology, reveals as rational beings, need to respect the freedom of others, for which he designed the course of the marriage of the heroine, Isabel, to show her from the pursuit of the ideal of freedom to the pursuit of transcendental freedom of overflight process, as an example: adhere to moral principles, to assume self-responsibility on the basis of people can achieve true freedom in the moral sense.
