Abstract

The research on the Shang culture has always been the focus of the attention. Especially in recent years, the relationship between the origin of Shang culture and the new discovery archaeological culture has attracted the majority of the scholars. As to the issue of the Shang culture northward, scholars had made in-depth study, but mostly from a large time span of Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties for macro-analysis. In this paper try to find the cultural communication and influence of the early Shang culture on the Shanxi province.This paper is divided into six sections. The first part is an introduction. It will make a definition of the relevant concepts, such as Shang culture, the staging of Shang culture, the early culture in Shanxi province and a brief review of current academic research on the topic;and introduce the research methods, purpose and meaning.The second part is about the early Shang culture in Shanxi province. Firstly, it start to analyse the archaeological remains in the early Shang times in Shanxi province; Secondly, it summarized the main features of the early Shang culture in Shanxi province, and also subdivided into two other areas of archaeology of Shanxi culture——Baiyan culture and Zhukaigou culture. Then the author give a detailed description of them.The third part is about the culture communication of the early Shang culture on the Shanxi province. By analyzing of the starting time in the cultural sites in Shanxi, the early Shang culture can be divided into the three period, which is equivalent to the second, third and fourth period of Erligang culture, and then draw a conclusion that the early Shang culture come to Shanxi at the two period of Erligang culture. According to the distribution of Shanxi regional cultural and geographical features of the face, we can divided Shanxi province into six areas——southwest, southeast, the central south, the central, northeast and north west, which are almost on the effect of the early Shang culture by three periods.The fourth part is about the influence of the early Shang culture on the Shanxi province. By the cultural factors, Baiyan culture and Zhukaigou culture are different from the Erligang culture, but the two archaeological cultures absorb some factors of the Shang culture; So, it is clear that Baiyan culture and Zhukaigou culture are both on the influence of the early Shang culture.The fifth part is about the route and the causes of the culture spreading. In author’s view, based on archeology, geography literature and turtle shells and bones etc, the natural environment was the main causes for the spreading.. There are three lines. First, it had spread from Yiluo region to Sanmenxia-Yuncheng in basin-Linfen and basin-Jinzhong-northwest Shanxi province. Second, culture had spread from Jiyuan by Shaoyuan-yuanqu mall-Yuncheng basin-linfen basin-jinzhong -northwest of Shanxi province, which is the most important channe. Third, it had spread from Jiaozuo-jincheng-jindongnan basin-Jinzhong-northwest of Shanxi province, which is relevant to the northwards of the cultural center of the Shang culture. And the sixth part is the conclusion.
