Abstract

The range adverb is an important category of the adverb. But the current research of the range adverb focuses on modern Chinese language. Besides, there are too much single thesises, but few research of the publications. So we realize that the range adverb needs further research, as a category of the adverb.We think that research the range adverb in a ponderable monograph is worthy. On the basis, we carry on the comparative studies during the same period and between different dynasties. It is very helpful to make the face of the range adverb in a certain period clear and find out the historical context of a certain range adverb. Yuan is a dynasty which has special features in its language, after tang and song, before ming and qing. Obviously, the yuan dynasty takes an important position in the modern history of Chinese. We chose the Thirty Kinds Dramas of Yuan Dynasty,which is the only collection of dramas of the yuan dynasty inscribed in the yuan dynasty, as our corpus to study the range adverb.This article edited "New public Thirty Kinds Dramas of Yuan Dynasty " published by China Publishing House in 1980, proofreaded by Xu Qin jun, to study the range adverb. We utilized the methods of describing and comparing analysis, statistical and qualitative analysis, description and explanation analysis.Under the guidance of this idea, the thesis is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction. The main part in this chapter is the literature review ahout the range adverb and the Thirty Kinds Dramas of Yuan Dynasty. In addition to this, we introduced the Value of Research, corpus and research methods.The second chapter defined the range adverb in the Thirty Kinds Dramas of Yuan Dynasty, from the semantic features, syntactic function, and the semantic orientation. Besides, we differentiated the range adverb from other similar parts of speech. On that basis, we picked out all the range adverbs in the Thirty Kinds Dramas of Yuan Dynasty, and divided them to four categories, the general range adverbs, the finite range adverbs, the statistical range adverbs, and the similar range adverbs.The third chapter took the quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, under the guidance of structuralist theory. In addition, we found the development of most of the range adverbs in the Thirty Kinds Dramas of Yuan Dynasty.The forth chapter is about the range adverbs used together. We researched why and how they were used together.The fifth chapter is the epilogue. We summarized the characteristics of the range adverbs in the Thirty Kinds Dramas of Yuan Dynasty. "Jie" and "yi" were replaced by "dou" and "ye" gradually. "Zi" and "the" became the most common finite range adverbs. The old range adverb "quan" and "zong" were often used in negative sentences in this period. Furthermore, we also pointed out the defects.
