Abstract


The thinking mode by adopting symbols, depends on symbols of matter in the course of thinking, takes imagination as a medium, to deduce an abstract conclusion by forced analogy. Taking its shape in I Ching, the thinking mode by adopting symbols is a special traditional thinking mode, generally used by the Chinese for awareness or unawareness, from the ancient periods to nowadays. As I Ching was completed in Yin Zhou, the thinking mode has exerted an profound influence on later ages on literary creation. In order to carry on, develop and enhance Chinese national and tradittional culture fully, it is a need to explore, search and put in order this thinking mode in degree.The thinking mode by adopting symbols has materal differences from the thinking mode by logics, images and inspirations. The result of the logical thinking is unique and inevitable, while it is pluralistic and probable of the thinking mode by adopting symbols. Thinking images is to find out the nature through creating images by writers, while the thinking mode by adopting symbols is to deduce an abstract conclusion through symbols and imagination. Inspired thinking has the nature of invention and creation, while the thinking mode by adopting symbols is formed by experience of life and feelings on specific matters.In I Ching, the thinking mode by adopting symbols is presented in three ways, such as divinatory symbols demonstrate reasons by symbols of matter, Yao-location shows reasons by symbols of matter, Yao Ci expounds reasons by symbols of matter. Both Ba Gua and 64 diagrams are the results of the thinking mode by adopting symbols, because they all depend on symbols of matter in the course of thinking, take imagination as a medium, to deduce an abstract conclusion by forced analogy. In above ways, I Ching deduces rich an d varied reasons, which makes writers gain benefits a lot, Li Shangyin is one. of the well-known writers who have maken significant contributions in literary creation by using the thinking mode by adopting symbols. Due to. Li Shangyin’s poetries, which were completed by the thinking mode by adopting symbols, we could realize his rough life, we could see suffering of the writers’in the last period of Tang Dynasty, and we could also know more of the society and life.As the writer of this thesis, I do in-depth research for the thinking mode by adopting symbols in Li Shangyin’s poetres after going over his love poetries, political poetries and the poetries of expressing his sentiments and aspirations. I divide his love poetries into three parts, adopting names for pouring emotion out; adopting allusions for presenting emotion; adopting objects for expressing his emotion. I divide his political poetries into four parts, adopting images for warning persons who achieve high position by unscrupulous scheming; adopting images for attacking eunuches; adopting images for satirizing fatuous rulers; adopting images for praising sages. I divide his poetries of expressing his sentiments and aspirations into two parts, adopting images for expressing ambition; adopting images for sighing life. At the same time, I daw a conclusion that the thinking mode by adopting symbols is the logical base of "Bi Xing" and "Symbolize" from the artistic technique of expression angle and artistic esthetic angle. The ambiguity of the thinking mode by adopting symbols increases Li Shangyin’s poetres haze, and the rough life of his own makes his poetres solemn and stirring. By means of combining professor Yu Chunhai’s research accomplishments on the thinking mode by adopting symbols of I Ching, with academic circles’s research accomplishments on Li Shangyin’s poetres, I research Li Shangyin’s poetres from the point of the thinking mode by adopting symbols. The thesis is to give a full display of the thinking mode by adopting symbols in Li Shangyin’s poetres, which is one of the most important thinking modes in Chinese literature.
