Abstract


Being a dramatic changing stage in Chinese history, the period of the warring States (chunqiu zhanguo) was a time characterized by its politically multi―centered transitional situation. The main theme of the time was how to end the chaotic situation and what kind of political system the country should establish. The Hundred of Schools of thinking was actually the ideological reflection of the multi―centered political situation of the time. They propared theoritically for the new political system from different aspects. Fa Jia(the school of legalists),being a relatively late―emerged school of thinking , was a summery of other early shcools. It reflected the Trend of political unification in ideological field. Fa Jia(the Taoists), the theoritical element of natural philosophy of Dao Jia(the Taoists), the intermediate role and the way of supervision of the officials by a monarch of Huang Xue, the methodologist guarantee of the Ming Jia(the Mohists), the method of reward and punishment of Bing Jia (the militarists) , and so on. It is on all these contributions that Fa jia built up its own boctrine of rule of law.
