Abstract


Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and esophageal carcinoma (EC) are the malignant tumors with high incidence in China. The curative effects of the middle and advanced patients of these tumors by traditional therapy are very bad. With the progresses of molecular biology in recent years, gene therapy has become one of the focal points in the field of tumor biology research, which would bring better survival rate for the patients. Despite the great progress made, some technical problems of gene therapy have not been addressed, which must be solved before clinical trial. One of these basic issues is the selection of target gene, which might directly influence the curative effect of gene therapy.The transcription factor EGR-1 (early growth response gene-1) is a potential regulator of over 30 genes, and it plays an important role in cell growth, differentiation and development.
