Abstract


Distraction osteogenesis(DO) has long history in long bones. But in maxillofacial bones, it only has about 20 years’ clinical and experimental study. Since the principles in long bones do not totally suit for maxillofacial bones, it is necessary to do research work about it. Nowadays the studies about DO concern the improvement of instrument and some histological observation, however, the study about the molecular mechanism of DO in maxillofacial bones is quite few. Thus we implored self-made tooth-borne distraction instrument in goat’s mandible, to observe the feasibility of the instrument and animal model of goat in the study of mandibular DO. The histological changes, the ultrastructure changes, the characteristics of cell cycle, the involvement of signal molecules, as well as the factors and proteins involved in modulating new bone formation were observed. Thus to further understand DO process and lay down basis for further clinical application.1. The fabrication of tooth-borne DO instrument and the feasibility of goat as animal modelThis study was conducted to implore self-made tooth-borne DO instrument in goat. Results showed that by using the instrument, we could effectively lengthen goat’s mandible and the instrument fixed well in the mouth. Goat tolerated well to anesthesia and operation and were very docile. So goat was good candidate for study of maxillofacial bones’ DO.2.
