Abstract


Based on three indexes, bilateral trade, FDI and international aid of China in Laos, Economic Relations between China and Laos in the Early 21 Century applies core concepts of IPE, such as "public goods", "international regime", "interactive between economy and politics" to studies the economic relations of the two countries and its characteristics problems existing in Sino-Laos economic relations.There are four chapters in this paper. Chapter one analyzes the background of the constantly developing Sino-Laos economic relations in the past ten years and its significance. It believes that the continuous progress of Sino-Laos political and economic relations since 1961 laid the foundation of and promoted economic exchanges between the two countries in the 21 century, which in return contribute to the stability and development of China, Laos and the region as a whole.Chapter two analyzes bilateral trade, FDI and international aid of China in Laos in the past decade and the factors strengthening China-Laos economic relations. Special research was done on Yunnan-Laos economic cooperation. It holds the opinions that the progress of Sino-Laos economic relations profit from following factors:strong complementarities of Sino-Laos economy; the constant progress political relations between China and Laos; the changes of regional and sub-regional international regimes; sub-national governments actively participate in the economic cooperation and a series of favorable policies made by China and Laos.The third chapter analyzes the characteristics and challenges of Sino-Laos economic relations based on chapter two. It not only summarizes the general characteristics and challenges of China-Laos economic relations, but expounds the traits and problems of bilateral trade, FDI and international aid of China in Laos respectively.Chapter four analyzes the prospects and makes some considerations about how to impel Sino-Laos economic relations respectively from the perspectives of China, Laos, interactive between China and Laos.
