Abstract


Taboo originally means tending towards auspiciousness to avoid ominousness. The remarks of taboo including symbols and incantation belong to the witchcraft in remote ancient times. They filtered into inchoate medicine and became a treatment.Some words about curing disease with taboo have been involved in some Traditional Chinese Medical books such as wu shi er bing fang, huang di nei jing ,other books in successive dynasties and so on. Curing disease with taboo play some part on the development of Chinese medical theory and practice. Eighteen thousand years ago, taboo behavior came into being. In Yin dynasty, taboo has been written on bones or tortoise. There are also records about taboo in Zhou Yi. After Han dynasty, Taoism inherited and developed religions about taboo, and taboo influenced the believers’daily life.Symbols were originally warrants of troops. wizards in Han dynasty were the first to imitate this kind of military-political system, to make the symbols of authority in god and ghost world. symbols turned into symbols of Taoism, with many types and forms following the Taoism formed.The incantation was origined from uncultivation of primitive societys. Primitive people thought that sound coming from a supernatural and mysterious world had the ability to see through, destroy ghost and communicate with god. Incantation formed in this process became a kind of special language of extraordinary power which can prevent disaster , bring people happiness and make people live longer.Taboo can cure disease at the early age of its formation. After taboo was changed into Taoism magic arts, the role of curing was developed further. In Shui dynasty, professional witch of medicine appeared. In Yuan and Ming dynasty, taboo became a formal subject of curing disease. Taboo was expounded in volum 2 of Sun Si-miao’s qian jin yi fang, a doctor in Tang dynasty. Taboo involves monastic discipline, fast and taboo.Monastic discipline refers to behavior standards of executor, including five abstain, ten goodnesses,eight taboos,four ascriptions . Fast means that people should be aware of their behavior before showing their respect for god. Jin jing has introduced some specific ways of fast. Incantation contains the most contents. There are about four kinds of incantation. They are incantation for frightening, warning, abusing and explaining the causes of illness. In volume 2 of jin jing, there are only a few contents about symbols, and most of them are symbols for avoiding evil and frightening when combined with taboo and incantation.In ancient times in the medical literature, commonly used in witchcraft following categories diseases: malaria, maternity, paediatrics, ophthalmology, a wound, and so on. many physicians have an objective and witchcraft have a clear understanding including Sun Simiao. Most of them believe that witchcraft Qingjian small number of patients can have a role, but if the return of the disease potential, must pass formal treatment, can we have a good prognosis. blindly superstitious taboo will adversely affect the treatment of illness, and even bring about serious consequences. Some doctor of civil and some people in order to extort money from the phenomenon. Some physicians even more explicitly pointed out that the so-called ghosts pathogenicity is not in the evil influences feelings caused. Most physicians believe that, despite its absurd treatment of taboo, human life is valuable, and is a wide variety of diseases, and can help cure a fear of the methods should be retained.When we look into the whole process of treating illness with taboo, its not difficult to find that it were medicine treatment and prevention measures which included in incantation that take clinical effects. Medicine treatment and prevention measures include taking a bath, burning incense, adding medicinal herbs to raw and processed material and using symbols and so on. In addition, the curative effects of taboo should owe to physiological medical effects to a great extent.The implementation process of witchcraft and modern psychological treatment and support hypnosis contrast, which also implied a lot of psychological factors. And witchcraft can get certain effects, the theory of Chinese medicine is based on the concept and spirit of unity. That is, people’s physical and spiritual unity and the spirit of the body is the basis of material, spiritual and the physical play a leading role. In the treatment, restoration of the body through various means of the coordination function of balance, can significantly improve the human spirit, the same way, by regulating the body’s state of mind also the function of the body can be improved so that the damage be repaired.We are think taboo as neither rhyme nor reason because of the superstition to obliterate its medical form.it played the role history of the immportant role of development of medicine.it was not too mysterious. We should objectively analyze the scientific knowledge useful to them today for our medical services.
