With the rapid development of Internet technology and communication technology, the traditional meter-reading way can not satisfy the needs of today’s society. There are lots of problems existing in traditional artificially meter-reading system construction, such as long construction period, difficult wiring, high cost and so on. Now we propose to build the new energy-saving industry, it’s urgent to solve this energy problem.ZigBee technology is recently very hot as a short distance, low complexity, low power consumption, low rate, low-cost wireless network technology. It’s mainly used for short-range, low power consumption and low rate electronic devices to two-way data transmit.Therefore, ZigBee technology is widely used in the field of wireless automatic meter-reading and metering network. Low-power, low-cost ZigBee technology fits in the development trend of green. Meter-Bus technology with long distance transmission, communication baud rate flexibility, and the characteristics of strong anti-interference ability, it has been widely uesd in automatic meter reading. In this paper, ZigBee wireless networking technology and the Meter-Bus echnology is combinied, we do research on a kind of close, medium and small coverage of automatic meter reading system, thus it effectively solves some evils existing in the traditional Meter reading system, and also improves efficiency, reduce the energy consumption.According to different functions, the automatic meter-reading system is divided into three parts, they are concentrator, router, line number controller.First, this paper introduces the Meter reading system and development at home and abroad, the background of the development of ZigBee technology, the ZigBee network topology structure, the functions of each layer of Z-Stack protocol Stack and characteristics of Meter-Bus technology. Second, we focuses on the automatic meter reading system network mode, software operating systems, each function module software design process, the software structure of protocol stack. Third, make details about the function of line number controler, hardware circuit design principle and circuit board production, it also introduces experimental platform based on CC2530, the router hardware design principle and software design process. Finally, the paper makes a summary of the system, points out the shortcomings and the following design work
