Abstract

The investigation of Epoxysuccinic Acid (EPSA) and Pentanediamine (PDA) contents on physical and thermal properties of modified nylon6fibers, and on the dyeability and color fastness of modified PA6fabric samples are studied in this study. The melting temperatures found for (PA-EPSAx)yPDAz fiber specimens reduce significantly as their EPSA and PDA contents increase, however, their percentage crystallinity values increase significantly with the increase in EPSA and PDA contents. The C=O stretching vibration band with a peak wavenumber at1704cm-1appeared gradually on the FTIR spectra of PA-EPSAx specimens with EPSA contents equal to or greater than1wt%. This is likely due to the overdosaged EPSA residues that remained in PA-EPSAx specimens without reaction with PA6molecules. The peak wavenumbers corresponding to the N-H bending vibration, C=O stretching vibration and N-H stretching vibration bands of (PA-EPSAx)yPDAz shifted significantly after addition of varying amounts of EPSA and PDA.The K/S values of (PA-EPS Ax)yPDAz fibers specimens dyed with acid dyes are about50to100%higher than those of the PA6fiber. The K/S values of (PA-EPSAx)yPDA2fiber specimens increase dramatically as both EPSA and PDA contents increasing from0to2wt%, and then reach an asymptotic value with the further increase in both EPSA and PDA contents. The color fastness (light, washing, crocking) values of (PA-EPSAx)yPDAz fiber specimens improved by half and/or one grade better than those of PA6fibers. Possible reasons accounting for the above interesting dyeing and color fastness properties of (PA-EPSAx)yPDAz fiber specimens are proposed in this study.
