Carbon filled polymer composites are considered to be one of the optimalelectromagnetic shielding materials. electromagnetic shielding polymer composites whichusing polypropylene (PP)/nylon6(PA6) immiscible polymer blends as a matrix were preparedby using a line-shape arranged three-screw extrusion. Carbon black (CB) and graphite (G) astwo kinds of conductive filler were applied to manufacturing PP/PA6/carbon composites. Andsteam exploded sisal fibers were introduced as an auxiliary. The effect of PP/PA6weight ratio,loading of carbon fillers, coupling agent treatment, sisal fiber/carbon weight ratio and loadingof carbon modified sisal fiber on shielding effectiveness (SE), mechanical properties andmicrostructure was researched.Research on PP/PA6/carbon electromagnetic shielding composites shows that with theincrease of carbon fraction shielding effectiveness increased. For PP/PA6/carbon blackcomposites, an appropriate ratio (80/20) was fund to make the shielding effectiveness andmechanical properties maximum. When carbon black content was25%, PP/PA6is80/20, awell co-continuous structure and double percolation threshold effect appeared. The maximumSE is33.2dB (900MHz) in low frequency and38.7dB (17GHz) in high frequency.Schelkunoff theory can accurately predict the SE of PP/PA6/carbon black composites Andcoupling agent modification of carbon black made SE decreased and mechanical propertiesincreased. For PP/PA6/graphite composite, PP/PA6ratio had a little influence on SE.Coupling agent modification of graphite made both mechanical properties and SE improved.When the graphite content was20%, good comprehensive mechanical properties have beenobtained.Research on PP/PA6/carbon/sisal fiber electromagnetic shielding composites indicatesthat an appropriate ratio of sisal/carbon was discovered to get the best shielding performance.Sisal fiber played an role of increasing carbon concentration in the dispersion matrix andadsorbing carbon particles to form conductive network. For PP/PA6/carbon black/sisal fibercomposites, when carbon black content was25%, low frequency SE was up to38dB (900MHz), and high frequency SE got a maximum of40.7dB (16GHz). Schelkunoff theory canaccurately predict the SE of PP/PA6/carbon black/sisal fiber composites When the content ofcarbon black modified sisal fiber was20%, composites got an eclectic mechanicalperformance. For PP/PA6/graphite/sisal fiber composites, when the graphite content was25%,the highest SE is11.4dB (900MHz) in low frequency and22.1dB (17GHz) in high frequency. When the graphite modified sisal fiber content was50%, a good comprehensivemechanical performance has been obtained.
