Abstract


In the knowledge-economy era, there is no denying that the significance of knowledge, one kind of intangible assets, has already been second to none when compared to other tangible capital. In the meanwhile, knowledge has been given an increasing amount of attention from various fields, such as business, education and the governments. Admittedly, knowledge management was created and widely spread under this condition. With numerous differences from traditional management thoughts, the main purpose of knowledge management is expected to convey the most appropriate knowledge to the person with great desire through the fastest and the most convenient channel. In addition, much more knowledge shall be created as well as the value of knowledge shall be increased during the delivering process.At the very beginning, knowledge management was applied by the enterprise to reduce the negative impact caused by the knowledge lost, to optimize the institute’s management philosophy, to enhance its competitiveness, and to maximize its economic profits in the end. Similarly, knowledge management is also believed to have the ability to optimize educational management as well as to improve teaching and learning in schools. In the educational field, how to transform the complicated data into organizational knowledge for much wiser decision-making, how to increase the communication of tacit knowledge among teachers, and how to provide a formal platform for parents’better comprehension of their children’s behaviors at school, all the problems above make the educational administrative and k-12 schools realize the feasibility and necessity of the practice of knowledge management in k-12 schools.Based on discussing the current situation of educational knowledge management both at home and abroad, this dissertation attempts to explain the concepts of knowledge and knowledge management from different perspectives first. Then it expects to analyze the success and failure which the k-12 schools in America and Canada are confronted with. Finally, according to the case studies, a series of advice are proposed for the better development of knowledge management in k-12 schools in our country.
