Abstract

Sloshing is often encountered in engineering practice, such as the LNG tank, the large liquid cargo ships, the elevated tank and the flying rocket generally all have tanks. Sloshing is often happened in the partly filled tank under the disturbance of outside. As the development of shipping, hydraulic engineering and nuclear engineering its importance is increasingly being recognized in the industry. Sloshing is a fluid motion of highly nonlinear and randomness, which is effected by many factors, such as not only the shape of the tank, liquid properties and frequency of excitation but also filling ratio, structure properties and so on. Sloshing will be fierce when the move frequency of the container is close to the natural frequency of the liquid in the container or the excitation amplitude is very large. The strong impact pressure and considerable hydrodynamic impact which will influence the ship motion and the stability of the tank can not be ignored. Therefore, the study of sloshing has important theoretical significance and engineering value. In this paper, the liquid sloshing in three-dimensional elastic tanks is simulated based on the finite element software ADINA to study the dimension of the structure, the physical property of structure, the filling rate, the excitation frequency and the excitation amplitude influence on the sloshing, The main jobs of this paper are as follows:(1) Establish a rectangle model and a cubes model according to the characteristics of sloshing. The previous model is used as a test model, the other is used to study the properties of liquid sloshing. Using the finite element method to and solve the fluid control equations and the implicit integration method to integrate and solve the structure control equations.(2) Based on the established model, sloshing in different size of rigid tank is simulated. First, analysis the free surface and hydrodynamic characteristic of rectangular tanks with different filling rate in order to verify the correctness of the model. The main research contents as follows:the resonant frequencies of liquid sloshing is computed and compared with the Abramson theoretical solution; the free surface elevation is compared with the analytical solution; the characteristic of distribution of hydrodynamic pressure along the bulkhead is analysised and compared with the theoretical solution. Then liquid sloshing in cubic tank is simulated to study the three-dimensional effect of sloshing.(3) Sloshing in the corresponding elastic tank of different size are simulated based on step two. First compared the free surface and hydrodynamic characteristic of elastic rectangular tanks with experimental result to verify the correctness of the elastic model. Then sloshing in cubic tanks of different stiffness and different excitation frequency is simulated to analysis the characteristics of the moving liquid and the response of structural. The simulation results are compared with the corresponding rigid tanks so as to conclude some sloshing regularity in elastic tank.
