With the rapid development of national economy, increasing pressure of fossilenergy shortage and requirement of environment, energy conservation has becomeone of the important strategies for sustainable development in China. In the worldwideenergy consumption, as an important sector of the energy consumer, the strategy forbuilding energy-saving has no time to delay. Window is an important factor in the totalenergy consumption of building. Effective improve mount of the thermal performance ofthe window will reduce building energy consumption. Airflow window is one of thepromising window technology recently. This study analyses the energy performance of an exhaust air window in typical hotsummer and cold winter region. Heat transfer through the exhaust-air window is modeledand its energy performance is simulated. Main factors affecting the performance of theexhaust air window are investigated. Matlab is used as platform for the simulation. Theenergy performance and thermal comfort of the exhaust air window and a conventionalwindow are computed and compared. Results show that when air flow velocity is fixed, the increasing of the size in cavitycan’t effectively influence the heating load in winter. The increases of the air velocity canwell improve the thermal performance of the exhaust air window. Different climates alsohave great effects on the thermal performance of the exhaust air window. In typical hot-summer-cold-winter region, the exhaust airflow window can always maintain high thermaland energy performance in cooling and heating season. The energy performance in wintercan be better than it in winter. The difference in temperature between the internal glasspane and the indoor air can significantly decrease by the exhaust air window. At last, exhaust air window can remove indoor occupants’discomfort which is caused by the radiation heat transfer and provide the better thermal comfort. To sum up, the exhaust air windows can conserve energy and provide the betterthermal comfort in typical hot-summer-cold-winter region.
