Abstract

This research studied on the establishment of plots among the different forest types in the sourceof Qiantang River. The seven typical forest types studied (Pine forest, Chinese fir forest, Deciduousbroad-leaved forest, Coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest, Bamboo forest, Evergreenbroad-leaved shrub, Evergreen broad-leaved forest) are representative of situations commonly foundin the Qiantang river watershed. The specific goals were to evaluate and compare the hydrologicaland erosional response of soil representing different forest types, to establish the influence of climaticvariability and soil surface characteristics. The results are as follows.Significant hydrogeomorphic responses among different forest types, the order of averagesurface runoff was Bamboo forest>Evergreen broad-leaved shrub>Deciduous broad-leaved forest>Pine forest>Coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest>Evergreen broad-leaved forest>Chinese firforest; the order of average soil erosion was Bamboo forest>Evergreen broad-leaved shrub>Deciduous broad-leaved forest>Pine forest>Coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest>Chinese firforest>Evergreen broad-leaved forest. It’s obvious that bamboo forest as the most serious in terms ofrunoff and soil erosion, conversely, Chinese fir forest and Evergreen broad-leaved forest showed thelowest runoff and soil erosion. In lost nutrients of these forest types, it was shown that TK> TN>TP.Nurtrient losses are driven by soil losses more than runoff. The lightest nutrient losses in runoff andsoil erosion were found in Evergreen broad-leaved forest, and the heaviset is bamboo forest.Between surface runoff(RF) and precipitaton(P), there was a regressive relation equation,RF=aP2+bP+c, and the similar equation between monthly change of soil erosion and monthly changeof precipitation. Within a certain range of rainfall, runoff increased was in accordance with rainfall, but not uniform increase. Nutrients by runoff and soil erosion are significantly correlated with runoffand soil loss linearly.Vegetation as a key factor in quantifying and interpreting the hydrological and erosional responseof different forest monitored. Soil erosion and nutrients loss can subsequently be controlled bychanging the forest type and increasing the ground cover. In summary, the Bamboo forest is not conducive to maintaining soil fertility continues todeteriorate with the growth of forest age; and evergreen broad-leaved forest, mixed coniferous canincrease or stabilize the soil physical and chemical properties, to reduce surface runoff and improve the soil erosion resistance effectively.
