Abstract

The tea garden spider is the major predatory natural enemy of pests, so there is great significance to protect the tea garden spider in regard of pest control. On basis of previous research and combined with the basic special project of Ministry of Science and Technology 《Investigating, Identifying, Preserving and Cataloging of the major pests and natural enemies in the tea plant》(2008FY210500), a systematic investigation of tea garden spiders in Hunan Province was carried out in this paper. It also made a preliminary analysis of the temporal and spatial niches of main spider species in the four types of tea gardens includingnatural growth tea garden, organic tea garden, ordinary tea garden and the young tea garden. This study provides theoretical support for the protection of tea garden spiders by studying on the digesting-capacity of Xysticus ephippiatus through laboratory experiments. The major results are as follows:1. To investigate and identify the spider species of Hunan Province and collate the relevant literature:There are122species belonging to16familie s, among which7species occur most often including Xysticus ephippiatus Simon, Coleosma octomaculatum Boes. et Str, Lycosa coelestris Schenkel, Pardosa laura, Evarcha albria L. Koch、Zelotes asiaticus Boes. et Str, and Agelena difficilis Fox.2. To analyze the niches of main spider species:The result shows that the temporal and spatial niche breadth of spiders is biggest in natural growth tea garden. The temporal niche breadth of Hylyphantes graminicola is0.6583and the spatial niche breadth is0.4668. The temporal and spatial niches overlapped significantly in the young tea garden, with the overlapped index of Agelena difficilis Fox and Lycosa coelestris Schenkel reaching up to1.0281, which means the interspecific competition is fierce.3. To study the digesting-ability of Xysticus ephippiatus Simon:The result shows that the spiders will prey only when their hungry degree reaches a certain level. The predacious number of spiders is not only related to the hungry degree but also to the digesting-ability of gut. At the earlier stage of hunger, the stronger the digesting-ability of gut is, the bigger the predacious number will be. When the gut is saturated, the spiders will gradually stop predation.By means of investigating\collecting and identifying samples of the tea garden spider in Hunan province,it defined the species of tea garden spider and the occurrences of dominant species in this paper., which provides a theoretical basis for the integrated control of pests and the protection and utilization of natural enemies.
