Abstract


The relationship between family and litrature is a main issue in Ancient Literature. It has a long history. The intellectual is a part of the family, his thinking and thoughts of culture, literature and aesthetics are all based on the culture of his family. Based on this, we are surporsed to research how the culture of Shanxi Liu family effects Liu Zongyuan. It includes thinking, literature and ieda of family. And it aslo includes the meaning of liu family in the middle of Tang Dynasty. At the same time, the middle of Tang Dynasty is a period of changing on political, economy and culture. We find the important meaning of Liu Zongyuan and his family in Gentry’s culture.As to Liu Zongyuan, Gentry’s culture and Family’s culture makes him be different to other Commoners on thoughts. It includes Ritual law and Straight concept. In addition to this, Liu Gongchuo and Liu Zhongying are different to Commoners in the rule of ritual law and ceremony. And that makes them have a typical Gentry’ significance. They advance disciplines of family consciously and they are on behalf of the Gentry’s culture. In short, they are different to Bai Juyi who stands for the culture of Commoners.So, it is possible, necessary and meaningful to put Liu Zongyuan and his family on the change of Gentry and Commoner. It helps us to study the thoughts and literature of Liu Zongyuan in a more macro background. And it also helps us know more about the cultrual significance of S Shanxi Liu Family.
