Abstract

Local records, also called local chronicles, is a comprehensive and information workswhich include China’s administrative division unit scope and historical records of natural andsocial aspects. Provincial local-records refer to a local record which records the provincialadministrative area’s history, military, traffic, cultural, economic and other fields. After thefoundation of the People’s Republic of China, all levels of local records have entered a newhistorical stage. On the basis of old local chronicles, local records’ guiding ideology, style andthe methods of compiling local chronicles reached an unprecedented spectacle. In the ancientliterature of China’s multitude of local chronicles, it occupies a large proportion, and has aunique value. Meanwhile, it is the outstanding cultural heritage of China and add luster to ourmotherland’s culture.Although Hainan Island is an isolate place, China’s ancient dynasties pay much moreattention on the writing of local chronicles. Only in the period of the Republic of China, ashort span of38years, there’re fifteen kinds of local records. After the founding of NewChina, especially after the1988, Hainan Island became a special economic zone, theeconomic and social sustained of Hainan Island had a healthy development in the continuousrapid track. A new local chronicles which is different from the previous records has becomethe common aspiration of the whole society. Along with the changes of the times, the progressof the society, the reform of traditional local records, creating new records become anobjective demand,"Hainan provincial local records" operating born. This thesis is accordingto the "Hainan provincial local record" which is used as the study point. The author paysattention to historical data collection and collation, the integrated use of history, historicalphilology, sociology, statistics theory and method. Besides the author does a research from thehistory, theory, evaluation of combining angle comprehensive system for the "Hainanprovincial local records". In the course of the study also adopts the method of case study andthe overall research, partly with the comparative research method. It had prospected thecompilation headstream, compiling background, compiling, editing features and data value in"Hainan provincial local records. With the comparison of "Guangdong provincial localrecords " and "Hainan Island local records", it did a further study of Hainan’s local chronicles and make a thorough and systematic analysis of " Hainan provincial local records ". What’smore, give a reasonable and objective evaluation from the overall advantages andshortcoming of Hainan local records ".This thesis has a innovation and combination in the table of contents and structure, andhas a local characteristics. Theoretical research give a strong definitely support in " Hainanprovincial local records". However, there are also some mistakes, including the source ofinformation, lack of readability, the large space, the compilation of weak province in thecompilation process in songs, too. Our province compilation should be fully appreciated,earnestly study, foster strengths and circumvent weaknesses, and to provide reference for thecompilation. Therefore, have an objective evaluation of "Hainan provincial local records"become the paper focuses on the process of writing.
