Abstract


The officials play an important role in the rise and fall of various dynasties.Obedient official is a type of officials, which is the model of Chinese feudalbureaucrat group. The word of“obedient official”first appears in the Selections fromthe Records of Historian written by Sima Qian, a historian in the Western HanDynasty. The reason why it appears in the Western Han Dynasty is that firstly HanDynasty is the initial grand unified feudal dynasty in Chinese history, which perfectlyformed a governance structure of bureaucratic monarchy; Secondly, it is the first timeof peace and prosperity, while the prosperity of two Han dynasties to same extent isdue to the existing of numerous obedient officials who have produced a positiveinfluence on social development. Therefore, it has the special significance on thestudy of obedient official in the Han dynasty. On the one hand, obedient official in theHan dynasty set a good example for later generations; on the other hand, it help us toknow the politics in Han Dynasty comprehensively.The Han dynasty creates numerous conditions for obedient official coming onthe historical stage. In the political field, it realized the grand unification epoch withsocial stability, while economically, all need to be recovery and development. Theruler aimed at the prosperity of nation. The Han dynasty established a complete ofofficial selection, leader position and appraisal system. A number of confucian literarywent into the career by the foundation and perfection of the election system. The longexecution for officers is useful for cultirating honest and steady style of work,andpreventing the pursuit to the short—term effect.A complete system of rewards andpunishment is the important means to guarantee the order of bureaucratic team.Theperfect binding mechanism is the important factor for obedient officials. "Hundredsousted, the dominant Confucianism" guides the intellectuals to set up the Confucianvalue consciously. The obedient officials carried out the people-oriented thought ofConfucianism during their work, and also pursued“be rich and then educate",“servethe community well-off people”, and instruction of people. The obedient officialsimproved the social economy, public security conditions and custom greatly with their positive measures. For this, the imperator highly appreciated them, and gave them jobpromotion or increased the salary, while the people loved and esteemed them, andthen built temples for them.The obedient officials are typically characterized by solicitude, fair & honest,and integrity. Compared with obedient officials, oppressive officials seem to benegative and reverse.The violence, cool penalty is historians for their evaluation .Theobedient officials and oppressive officials have different means of executing thelaw,rule the people idea and ending fate. From this, you can have a betterunderstanding of obedient official. With different dynasties and different culturalbackground, obedient officials are with their characteristics in every dynasty.Although they are slightly different, but in essence, they are the good officials infeudal society, and also play a key role in the history. We give the praise for theperformance and personality characteristics of obedient officials. Moreover, we shallhold view of dialectical analysis to appraise any historical figures, but not ignore theimperfect characteristics of obedient officials. Some obedient officials withsuperstition and false performance are also recoreded by Historians.
