Abstract

In ancient China, the imperial power was the traditional autocratic political system,in this system neither anyone nor family dare share power with the emperor. But at theend of the turbulent Eastern Han Dynasty, the lineage possessed the strength to competefor power gradually. After the destruction of the eastern Jin dynasty, a large numbersof northern scholar clans and the Imperial Remnant moved southward and then wereforced to crown an emperor in order to safeguard their own exploitation rule not beinginfringed. During this period, the clans led to a qualitative change with quantityaccumulation, some of the Menfa forces had parallel even beyond the imperial power.Later, as the stability and military power getting strong enough, an idea came up to theirmind which was to capture the imperial power instead of the monarch. Though the EastJin Dynasty regime was established with the support of northern and southern clans, they need to guarantee their political status and family interests through SiMarui regime. The monarch was not resigned to share the power with others while the formidableclans aren’t expecting to be weakened. And the whole clans won’t sit waiting for deathwhen the Monarch trying to regain compete power and hit back them. After severalrounds of competition, the Monarch failed and had to accept the shared power as thepolitical pattern without support from the clans.During the East Jin dynasty period, the power were crucial to the stability ofpolitical situation, without the support of the Manarch first they were not able to retaintheir political status and family interests. In the regime, the Monarch who acted as thesupreme power center formed the power circle, people with close relationship with theMonarch were the policy makers, together they constituted the interest group, themembers were usually subjected to the supreme power center. The determination of theemperor was according to the need of the interest group regardless of the state. Therefore, the political situation in the East Jin Dynasty retained relatively stable inalmost one century after being founded.
