Abstract


Modern society requires the establishment of a healthy outlook on life and death, theancient Chinese philosopher ’s wisdom of life and death in this regard has certainreference significance.Confucius is the founder of Chinese traditional culture. And he alsois the important representative of Chinese national spirit. His viewpoint on Living anddeath has great studying value. To study this, first we must know his living circumstance.In his time, social economy had a little developed, but at the same time, social conflictalso was intensified. Slave society almost went to the end. Under this complicatedcondition, Humanism began to emerge, people turned to focus on human being instead ofbelieving heaven and gods. And slowly the thinking of people first became to break out.Confucius was influenced by this point. Facing difficulty and frustration, he did not obeythe arrangement of fate blindly, on the contrary, he did his best even he knew that heshould not success, and he believed that if he didn’t serve human being, he couldn’t serveghost. Confucius’ thinking also has been deeply influenced by his personal experience,such as his hard childhood and his failure of being an governor impressed greatly on histhought、being a teacher open Confucian mind and mattered a lots to his ideas towardsthis world.Human being is the subject of the view on Living and Death. To study Confucius’point on Living and Death, the first thing is to research his thinking of human being.About the beginning of life、human being position in the universe、human being nature,Confucius gave out philosophic answers. Confucius’s view on Living and death has twoimportant rules: one is“doing your best and waiting your time” and the another one ishumane. And Confucius also point out the way to gain a meaning life. It is to realize lifeimmortality by descendants and “Cultivating the self to the people”. As being a master,Confucius has his own living ideal. His ideal is the main moral ideal survival, followingwhat his heart desired and“Great Harmony”ideal society.Confucius thought death was the natural principle, and he believed death is anotherreincarnation. He thought death had unique value and meanings.About the relation of living and death, Confucius preferred living to death. Life isapperceive and meaningful. A progressive life is the way to gain the value of living andalso a peaceful death. Confucius also united living and death by universal origin, hethought they both were natural way, and weakened the opposition of living and death. By his own experience, Confucius gave his comprehension of living and deathmeaning of secular life. His view of life and death became part of Chinese traditionalculture and had great influence on the later Confucianism master、common people and theearly Marxism. It is very important for our modern society to form the healthy point ofLiving and death.
